Well, Dominique and Dominica are two different names.  Dominica and Domenica are the same name with variant spelling.

I'm afraid that because of people I've known in my life, I am not keen on Dominique.  But that is only a personal taste.  If Mith is tallying votes, I vote for Dominica.

Dominique is way too French.  No dice.

TKGS, thanks for asking your son-- I'm assuming he learned that in Latin class?  Any additional details about the conditions under which a feminized word/name assumes an "e" in place of an "i"?

Actually, I think he learned it in his etymology class that focuses on Latin and Greek roots.  He said that he didn't have any additional details just that the text notes the practice.  It is probably a mere preference issue.  As I noted earlier, I have never personally seen Domenica and even the spell checker on the forum doesn't like it, though I have seen Dominica.

But consider, if you name her Domenica, every time she spells her name on computers it's going to have a red wavy error line and she'll probably grow up thinking you didn't know how to spell her name.

Yesterday I was reading St. Alphonsus' essay on the Presentation of Mary in The Glories of Mary, and in the Example he discusses a Sister Domenica - with an e - del Paradiso. She was Italian, died in 1553. It's on page 315 of the TAN version.

Continued prayers for you!
Mother of God, pray for us sinners.

We're continuing to pray for mother and father-to-be. Looks like this will be a Christmas baby!
Mother of God, pray for us sinners.

Yes Barbara, hopefully!  She'll be a bit more valuable if she's a Christmas baby, rather than a New Year's baby  ;D (taxes)
