Interesting.  Being on HBO, I would have expected the show to include lots of soft-porn and show a version of the Church that would appeal to the most corrupt of the protestants.

How long has this show been on?

Oh there's definitely explicit content, including a particular cardinal who is very fond of the sins of the flesh.

A year? Two years?

I have not watched it and likely won't, unless and except there is a clean version made available.

Even then, judging by the trailer, I'm not sure that one could hold out much hope for the show being anything other than ultimately subversive.  It might get some things right, maybe even a lot of things right, and it sounds like it attracts a diverse audience (including some Catholics!) precisely because it plays its "point" close to the chest.  But eventually, if it ever wants to resolve the story so it can move on to the next iteration of Deadwood or whatever else, it's going to have to show it's hand.
