Eel For Friday
« on: October 17, 2017, 06:56:30 PM »
I'm thinking about preparing everyone's favorite watery creature this Friday for the first time, and was curious if any other TTF members have already tried their hands/knives at it.  The eel will be served over rice, much in the Japanese fashion.

Tips?  Tricks?  Anyone want to talk me out of it?

Well I (like any person with functioning taste buds, I'm sure) love unagi, although I haven't the faintest idea what sort of advice to give you.  I eat it, I don't cook it.

Anyone else notice that most of the first threads on TTF are about food?  And it isn't even Lent!

I love seafood. Shellfish, calamari, gooseneck barnacles and the like.  That said, I have never had the pleasure of eating eel.

On the contrary, now that you've brought it up, we insist on pics!  Or it never happened.

This thread makes me want to 🤢. The idea of eating an eal is too much for my human frailty. I leave it to more mortified and penitential Catholics. I can’t think of a way to earn more time off purgatory than eating eel every day for a year.

The person should of course gain the permission of his confessor before imposing such a strict mortification 😀 lest the person sin through pride in his own strength.

You give us too much credit, David!  At least for me, eel is far from penitential.

Delay of eel until another Friday when I'm not quite as worn-out from the day's work.

In lieu of eel, a sandwich.

The pressure of "pics or it never happened" is getting to him.
